The Fourth Annual  Tierrasanta Community Calendar Amateur Photo Contest.

The Tierrasanta Foundation with the Kiwanis of Tierrasanta and the Tierrasanta Junior Women’s Club announces the kickoff of the  2011 Tierrasanta/Murphy Canyon calendar ”Island in the Hills” amateur photo contest. The wall sized calendars will include announcements of holidays and community meetings. Each month will feature a different photo or photo montage. The calendar will also feature coupons with special values from local business sponsors. Entrants must be Tierrasanta/Murphy Canyon residents and the subject matter must be clearly recognizable as a Tierrasanta scene or event reflecting community spirit; this includes montages. Categories will include community events such as the Tierrafest, the Taste of Tierrasanta, Tierrasanta/Murphy Canyon scenic views such as the Tierrasanta trails, people, floral and fauna, and wildlife. There will be 13 winning photos or photo montages chosen. The overall best photo as chosen by the judges that best depicts the community character/spirit will be displayed as the cover photo. Entries may be submitted through September 11, 2010. No entry fee is required this year. Two monetary prizes will be awarded; a $100 dollar prize for the best picture or montage (the cover photo) and a $50 prize for the best picture or montage submitted by a person under 17 years of age. In addition, each of the 13 winning photographers will be presented a calendar with coupons. The winners will be announced October 9, 2010 at the Oktoberfest held at the Tierrasanta Community Park. The calendars with the winning photos will be available in mid November at selected Tierrasanta merchants.  The Tierrafest, Patriots Day parade and barbeque is the Saturday, May 15 and the Taste of Tierrasanta is August 21, all presenting excellent opportunities, so get those cameras out!  REMEMBER – all submittals must be recognizable as a TIERRASANTA / MURPHY CANYON EVENT or SCENE!
